ADULT USE VS Medical USE

Recreational-vs-Medicinal

← Beginner’s Guide

Are you interested in experiencing the joyful, healing powers of cannabis but don’t know where to start? First, you’ll need to decide whether you want to shop as a recreational customer, or go a step further and get registered as a medical patient. In our view, all cannabis use is medicinal; or as Tommy Chong so aptly put it, “boredom is a disease too.” But for casual users, proceeding as a recreational consumer may make the most sense.

Recreational Consumers

Age Requirement: 21 years old with a valid government-issued ID.
Possession limits: up to 28.5 grams (1 ounce) of dried cannabis flower, or up to 8 grams of concentrates or edibles. You can also cultivate up to 12 plants at your home.
Potency caps: No more than 100mg THC per package and 10mg THC per serving
Consumption: generally limited to private property. Consuming cannabis in public places, including parks, beaches, and streets, is technically prohibited.

Medical Patients

Age Requirement: 18 years old with a valid government-issued ID and valid doctor’s recommendation.
Possession limits: up to 8 oz of dried cannabis flower, or up to 8 grams of concentrates or edibles. You can also cultivate up to six plants at your home, regardless of the number of adults living there.
Potency caps: Topicals can go up to 1,000 mg THC, sublingual tinctures and lozenges can go up to 500mg THC and concentrates can go to 2,000mg THC
Consumption: generally limited to private property. Consuming cannabis in public places, including parks, beaches, and streets, is technically prohibited. Qualified patients in CA have the right to access certain forms of medical cannabis in most healthcare facilities.
