Grateful Shred Recap

A big thank you from all of us at Sespe Creek for coming out and supporting the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy during the Grateful Shred benefit concert! We had so much fun engaging with our regulars and meeting new faces. Our most asked question of the weekend was “Are you all selling any cannabis?!” Unfortunately, we were not able to have sales at this event, even though there were many alcoholic options you could find anywhere at this all-ages show. However, we were still inspired by everyone respectfully lighting up while the wandering police mainly focused on keeping the event safe. It was almost like a little community could be trusted with their public cannabis use — imagine that!

Sespe Creek has always led the way with caring about our impact on the environment so it was a no brainer to help sponsor the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy Benefit with Grateful Shred. Founded in 1987, the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy protects and restores the open space, wildlife habitat, watersheds, and views of the Ojai Valley for current and future generations. They’ve also permanently protected roughly 2,300 acres of open space through direct ownership and conservation agreements. The OVLC does so much but mainly credits all their donors who make it all possible.

At the booth we spoke to a lot of Grateful Shred fans who came from far out of town to jam out with us.  The lineup, featuring Dan Horne and Austin McCutchen alongside keyboardist Adam MacDougall woke the Grateful Dead cosmos with a unique, laid back, harmony-driven sound. The band literally went from playing the Shakedown Street vendor area prior to Dead and Company shows to touring the United States. We got a double treat when Dan Horne Band played too!

We’d also love to shout out to Garcia Hand Picked for coming out and hanging with us! Garcia Hand Picked is a cannabis line run by Jerry’s daughters that we carry at the shop. They brought some sweet Jerry merch and provided generous ticket holder deals we offered in- store, and even brought their tie-dye station to our booth. Fun for all ages!

Special thanks to the Ojai Playhouse, Little Creek Events, and Rum & Humble for organizing this amazing weekend at Libbey Bowl, and to Grateful Shred for rocking our small-town world. We were so excited to see how many of our Ventura regulars made it out for the weekend. It really felt like a family affair and we look forward to many more!
