Eileen Gillen, DVM, is the former co-owner and medical director of the CARE Specialty and Emergency Animal Hospital in Santa Barbara. She sold the hospital to Veterinary Centers of America in 2015. In addition to being experienced in Emergency Medicine and ER Management, Dr. Gillen has a special interest in treatment of pets using cannabis therapies.
Dr. Gillen received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Washington State University. She also has undergraduate degrees in biochemistry and animal science. She completed an internship in veterinary medicine and surgery, as well as a post-doctoral fellowship in Small Animal Transfusion Medicine, at the University of Illinois.
Dr. Gillen also has worked as a staff veterinarian at the Animal Medical and Critical Care hospital in Chicago and as an emergency staff veterinarian at the Animal Critical Care and Emergency Services hospital in Seattle.
Dr. Gillen is a member of Veterinarians Without Borders, American Veterinary Medical Association, Humane Society of the United States, Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Society, and Veterinary Cancer Society.
She is active in Wildlife Care Network, various Central Coast spay and neuter outreach programs, the Boys and Girls Club of the Central Coast, and Women Grow, an organization that promotes education, leadership and entrepreneurship in the cannabis industry for women.
